I'm having a hard time not throwing up my hands at this, but since you are at least considering that maybe there is some there there as they say, I will give you the benefit of the doubt.

Perhaps this is more pronounced in the US, but as researcher Peggy Orenstein noted when she interviewed a large cross-section of boys:

Jock culture (or what the young men I met were more likely to call “bro culture”) is the dark underbelly of male-dominated enclaves, whether or not they formally involve athletics: all-boys’ schools, fraternity houses, Wall Street, Silicon Valley, Hollywood, the military. Even as they promote bonding, preaching honor and integrity, such groups condition guys to treat anyone who is not “on the team” (a category that may include any woman who is not a blood relative) as the enemy—bros before hos!—justifying hostility or antagonism toward them. Loyalty is unconditional, and masculinity asserted through sharing sexual exploits, misogynist language, and homophobia. (emphasis mine)

Orenstein, Peggy. Boys & Sex (p. 21). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition.

But yes, it's much, much, much worse that you have ever imagined. Women are NOT overreacting and this is a global problem. Here are just a few stories that touch on that. I’m not expecting to you to read them all, just giving you a sample of just a few of the issues women still face which contribute to inequality.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
