I'm hearing this more and more. Young women often still buy into the propaganda that they will never be real women if they don't marry and have children, but once they've actually done that, they often realize it isn't all it's cracked up to be and that they are expected to take back seat status, even if married to progressive men. Middle aged and older women are more and more reluctant to remarry, opting instead for a more autonomous and independent life, which might well include a male partner, but one who has his own place where he does his own laundry and makes his own meals. She wants a companion, not someone she has to take care of. Even my mother, who was fairly conventional, had a partner for 22 years after my dad died, but she didn't want to live with him or marry him.

Younger women are smart to question the cultural narratives and decide for themselves if it's really worth it.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
