I’m not “blaming” men for any of this. It’s a cultural thing that is widely participated in. I’m just saying that there is a largely male-driven machine that is responsible for it, and that men are just as susceptible to it as women. In your initial comment, you seemed to be asserting that men really like a less emaciated woman (as shown in Playboy) and not on the runway. The problem with that is, the ratio you mentioned is commonly only found in women in their late teens. It’s not the shape of an adult woman, unless she’s starving herself as is widely taking place. The women you are alluding to as being the one real men actually prefer is also problematic, in that it’s not realistic or sustainable for most women as they become actual women and not just older children. Size 0 or 2, which is what most models are even in Playboy or Men’s Fitness, is not a healthy size for most adult women.
“Younger women are more likely to have an hourglass figure, and age is related to fertility, but the most attractive waist-to-hip ratios are generally found in women in their late teens, whereas women’s fertility tends to peak in their mid to late twenties.”
That beauty ideal may be being fed to us by Hollywood and the beauty/advertising industry, but it’s still overwhelmingly women who are challenging that.
