I'm not saying that those instances aren't serious or unacceptable. I'm saying that acting like that is the common and ubiquitous dynamic is disengenous. The facts don't support that. And it never, ever happens to powerful men - ever. What is common and ubiquitous is sexual violence against women, as well as that very rarely being punished - something which you seem to be quite fine with.

I don't know what "photos of the wrong guy are being sent" means but in the UK fewer than 1 in 60 cases of sexual violence even leads to charges. In the US, there have been many cases of men pleading guilty to rape and the judge refusing to sentence them to any jail time. Out of every 1,000 sexual assaults 975 perpetrators will walk free,

None of that means that false accusations are OK, and no one has said that they are, but focusing on that when it almost never happens is a way to shift focus from the fact that every single woman you know of any demographic and any age group has very likely had experience of sexual violence of some sort - most of them many, many experiences.

One man has been killed over a false accusation. One - that is exactly what I'm talking about - this sort of hyperbole. By contrast, an American is sexually assaulted every 73 seconds — most of them women. A very specific type of person makes a false accusation under very particular circumstances. Have a look at this article to learn more about that.

“Furthermore, in the most detailed study ever conducted of sexual assault reports to police, undertaken for the British Home Office in the early 2000s, out of 216 complaints that were classified as false, only 126 had even gotten to the stage where the accuser lodged a formal complaint. Only 39 complainants named a suspect. Only six cases led to an arrest, and only two led to charges being brought before they were ultimately deemed false. (Here, as elsewhere, it has to be assumed that some unknown percentage of the cases classified as false actually involved real rapes; what they don’t involve is countless innocent men’s lives being ruined.)

So the evidence suggests that even in the rare case where a man is the subject of a false rape complaint, chances are that the charges will be dropped without him ever learning about the allegations.”

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
