I'm not surprised that Black women had to walk at the back of suffrage parades, considering the times, but it doesn't mean that these organizations didn't want Black women to vote. It's been 60 years since institutionalized segregation was ended, and I think many of us tend to forget how much a part of American life that it was before then.
