I'm sure it's a really great book but you don't need to convince me that economic inequality is a huge problem that is at the root of many other issues and keeps many others alive and well. As I said, I've already stipulated to that. And, as someone with a sociology background, who has written 40 articles in the past three years getting at the root of the social ills in our country, I'm trying to get you to see that you don't need to dismiss other oppressive factors in our society in order to let poverty "win." You've already said it is a zero-sum thing, and I'm trying to demonstrate to you that it is not. Believing in a zero-sum construct is a function of the dominance hierarchy ocean that we have all grown up swimming in. We've been taught that someone has to lose in order for someone else to win, and what I'm trying to get you to see is that actual progressives care about all of the things that lead to and maintain an unequal society, including but not limited to poverty. And whether you care about that term or not is irrelevant, if you truly care about the people being harmed, it is not only counter-productive but unempathetic to not look at the larger picture that includes all of the aspects of a dominance-based hierarchy as a social system.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
