In a dominance hierarchy social system (like patriarchy) coercion and bullying are the norm as a way to gain rank in the pecking order. It engenders incredible insecurity because men, in particular, can't just be men. They have to try to claim their masculinity every day and always have to compare themselves to others in order to seek sense of self - rather than it coming from inside of them. Women do this to some extent as well - and this constant comparison drives consumer culture - so it is maintained on purpose. But because women don't have to claim their woman card repeatedly and on an ongoing basis, it's not quite the same.
Everyone should be treated with basic human dignity and laughing at people because they don't meet some metric of conformity is terrible. I'm a 6 foot tall woman so I've had a lot of experience with that - nearly all coming from men.
