In a patriarchal culture where women weren't allowed to work until relatively recently - at least in anything beyond menial jobs - of course men were prioritized for their success. If you aren't allowed to provide for yourself and get only one mate to do that (rather than the village or band), you'd better darn well get the "best" one you can get.

But, those old metrics have been on the decline for over 70 years in many cultures, not just our own.

A relentless focus on “mating value,” narrowly conceived, also contrasts with an analysis of several data sets reporting what characteristics men and women find more and less important in a partner. These show that for the past seventy-five years, across a number of different countries, the most important attributes in a long-term partner for both women and men have nothing to do with youthful fertility traded for resources.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
