In general, I agree with the ideas you've presented here, but I do have a question about this statement above, which is entirely out of sync with what I know about H/G societies.

"Generally, anthropologists found that hunter-gatherers seemed very conflict-averse. When threatened by a neighboring group, hunter-gatherers would simply move to a different part of their territory. When the threat went away, they would return. They had little reason to fight, and so did not generally fight very often."

Perhaps you are referring to a group, such as the Yanomami - although they are not actual hunter-gatherers in that they get most of their calories from bananas and plantains, which they have planted and harvested and they live in villages. In my understanding, true H/G bands have low tolerance for anyone who disrupts the peace and smooth functioning of the group and they exert "reverse hierarchy" tactics in order to keep anyone like that in line, which may included teasing, shunning, banning and in extreme cases, even execution of anyone who does not maintain the peaceful ethos of the group.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
