In the 1950s strict gender roles were championed as the way to prosperity and happiness for all - except that it didn't actually turn out that way, and although a lot of men weren't happy either, it was so stifling to women that it spawned the women's movement of the 60s and 70s. As women (and racial minorities) gained equality, there was always some backlash. Yes, Millennials and Gen Z were largely brought up to be kinder and more accepting - but that is where the manosphere comes in - as a reaction to that - trying to dismantle equality in favor of the old hierarchies. As noted, there's a huge undertone (and sometimes overtone) of white nationalism and homophobia that goes along with the misogyny. It's patriarchy trying not to die and it is both heartbreaking and terrifying how successful that has been.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
