It doesn’t matter whether or not that was the intention of the study. It did demonstrate a marked gender difference, although some women had a hard time being alone with their thoughts as well. In everything I’ve written, I’ve said “some men” and spoken to societal dynamics. I’ve also spoken to the fact that some women experience similar issues. If you are taking this personally, that is an emotional response on your part.
The reason that I wrote this article is that I’m sick and tired of being on the receiving end of this dynamic. I rarely experience it from women; I experience it from men just about every single day. They claim to be super-rational and look condescendingly at me and other women and what we are saying. Meanwhile, they are quite obviously being run by their emotions and what they have to say is neither logical nor rational. It’s absurdly ironic, but also very tiresome.
Discovering that there was scientific data to support my personal experiences didn’t surprise me but it did mean this story was ripe to be written, particularly when I read that comment in story about the Democrats married to MAGA men. That’s often my writing process…. what is converging from my thoughts and personal experiences that is asking to be spoken about. If you’ve read many of my other social commentary stories, they are always sympathetic to men and the ways that patriarchal society harms them as well as women. That doesn’t mean that I can’s ask people to notice what they are doing and exhort them to do better.
