It might seem as though that is the major problem but cognitive science says we are all guity of doing this. Everyone makes choices and decisions based on subconscious beliefs and feelings, childhood indoctrination, and the influence of the media - not just lower IQ folks. Although Dunning Kreuger is a real issue, only about 2% of thought is conscious for any of us. We're all guilty of massive cognitive biases as well, such as the fundamental attribution error, the halo effect, and belief in Moral Luck. Hopefully at least some people with more education and/or innate intelligence have the sense to realize that and take it into account.
