It would be great if more men would recognize that - that despite what they believe about patriarchy, the social stratification and power differential between men and women is only one aspect - and not necessarily the central one. It's a system designed to support the interests of those at the apex of the pyramid at the expense of everyone else. Giving poorer whites historically higher position over Blacks, and giving other men some power over women is a way to deflect attention from that and get them to buy in.

For the first 100 years of this nation only white men who owned land could vote. If that doesn't give you a snapshot of the real dynamics of how this nation was established, I don't know what does?
