It's incredibly depressing. I just recently published a story about how 85% of American women have been sexually harassed before they were 17 - most of them beginning at age 10 or 11. That's horrendous! It's outrageous that we live in a culture that mostly doesn't even recognize that is happening and mostly isn't trying to do anything about it. And, it's a shame that more men aren't aware of this stuff. Not blaming you, but it's one of the problems of the culture as well, where this was largely seen as "women's issues" and unless you were a perpetrator, it didn't have anything to do with you.

I'm really, really clear that the only way we can confront this issue is to figure out how to get more men on board - more men understanding the depth of how bad things really are, but also really invested in helping to co-create a better culture. I've just started reading a book on just this by Jackson Katz, trying to learn more about how to convey this effectively in a way that men can hear - because to be honest, I've been rather frustrated on that front for some time. Only on Chapter 2 right now, but it seems promising.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
