I've run into so many men lately who think of themselves as sort of allies, or somewhat progressive who were spouting off stuff that was just plain false - because that's how it feels to them or seems to them - and then trash talking women based on that stuff. Talk about not being logical!
And if you care about women and the larger society AT ALL why aren't you educating yourself on what the facts are? Yes, women in STEM do experience significantly more sexual harassment than most other professions (although academia, and the restaurant industry are right up there). Yes, 85% of women in the US will be sexually harassed in childhood, often as young as age 9 or 10. Yes, in countries that have greater gender equality, men live longer, are healthier, and also happier. No, women aren't inherently less sexual than men - they just have to think more about their safety and whether or not the likelihood of bad sex is worth maybe getting pregnant or getting an STI.
There seem to be a large percentage of men who literally know almost nothing about women or women's lives who still want to say that women are "chasing good guys away" with all their complaints and upset. I could write a story every day on same aspect of this and not run out of topics for months, but I don't want to deal with the piling on and vitriol that would ensue.
Thanks for another important and thoughtful essay.
