Managing a household is a skill that takes years of trial and error to get really good at. And, if you are doing that at the same time as other types of unpaid or paid work, it’s an even bigger skill. But hey, if it’s mostly done by women, it can’t be that valuable, right? Just ask all the women who work in industries that used to be male-dominated (like camp counselor) about how wages dropped when more women came in, or about why janitors make so much more than maids. Frustrating!
