Masculinity as it's constructed in this culture is demonstrably the problem. Men who aren't actively confronting that are complicit. Period. End of story.
Men (acting on mainstream masculine norms) have been aggressing against me my entire life, since I was a young child and that's true of most women. The men who didn't do it nonetheless turned a blind eye and allowed it. They participated in upholding the social structures that allowed for me to be assaulted and aggressed against. None of the things that happen to women are "women's issues" - they are in fact all "men's issues" and it's men who need to take on cleaning up and shifting the culture away from a violent rape culture to one that is safer and healthier - for women, but also for themselves, because men suffer at the hands of other men as well.
