Misogyny is the policing arm of patriarchy. I think it's less that they hate women in general, but more that they hate the women who won't comply with their sense of entitlement (an ever growing number). Much like a child, they want what they want, regardless of what is reasonable or logical - because women are more toys to a lot of these guys than they are people.
