Most hunter-gatherer tribes, even modern ones, have no leader. They are built around an egalitarian and partnership-oriented system that actively keeps in check any man (it’s usually a man) getting ideas about his superiority. The person taking the initiative at any one time depends on the task being performed. Even though our larger and more complex society makes this hard to replicate completely, we could still take a couple of pages out of their book.
