My comments were less about holding anyone to modern standards but rather to point out that this aspect is never discussed. The FF are treated as paragons of virtue when they really were just flawed human beings who were products of their times. It's part of the Rah-Rah America narrative and the nuances of the truth are never discussed. They were all deeply suspicious of actual democracy - but instead we don't learn that. We learn propaganda.
