My husband and I always had a pretty egalitarian marriage but it became exponentially more so when we opened it up 5 years ago. The greater level of honesty, communication, self-responsibility, and non-codependence that this engendered took our very good relationship to a truly great one. I don’t think polyamory is for everyone, but I do think that having a relationship based in true partnership rather than in one person being the lead is critical to having a lasting and happy relationship.
