My husband and I have been watching Manhunt, about the search for John Wilkes Booth as well as Franklin (about Ben in France trying to drum up support for the war) and commented yet again about how little substantive or in depth (or even accurate) history we learned in schools. In fact, I'd say that beyond the most basic of reading, writing, and arithmetic, I didn't learn much that was truly useful until I got out of college and started learning more on my own.
It's particularly disgusting how what little we do learn is mostly about a few white men and doesn't begin to touch on the real contributions of POC or women.
