My objection to your comments was not in the fact checking - it was in the tone. I'm a research-based writer and have no issue at all with my facts being challenged. In fact, I've edited or corrected stories of mine dozens of times based on better information being made available to me by a commenter. My objection was in saying things like "that would mean all men are pedophiles." Not All Men rhetoric is by it's nature intended to minimize the problems that women face and to deflect attention away from them by putting the focus back on the "poor men" who aren't even being addressed in the first place. The fact remains that a huge amount of 10 year old girls are harassed, and that nearly all girls are harassed when they are still children - younger than 17. No problem with presenting the actual correct numbers - but that is not something that you did at any point, despite claiming to have read the Cornell study.
It can be difficult to truly communicate in writing with someone you don't know, and perhaps that is what we fell victim to, but I'm not sure that scoffing at someone's pain (what it felt like) rather than simply providing the more precise data is the way to get your point across.
