No, it's not retribution- it's an attempt at leveling the playing field by creating greater diversity - particularly in positions of authority and power. And, you refusing to come up with a better way to do that, refusing to take on the unearned privileges that you still enjoy as a man, is the actual problem. You aren't "innocent" - you and other men, particularly white men continue to benefit from continued structural inequality that is still deeply in the cultural subconscious of the society. Pretending that you are being harmed, when you are actually the one benefitting from inequality is a crock! I don't have any more time to devote to this nonsense except to say that this imagining that you are the actual victim in this equation is pathetic.
“So American white men, still among the most privileged group of people on the face of the earth—if you discount hereditary aristocracies and sheikdoms—feel that they are the put-upon victims of a society that grows more equal every day. It’s hard if you’ve been used to 100 percent of all the positions of power and privilege in the world to wake up one morning and find people like you in only 80 percent of those positions.”
