No, the problem was that you had grown up in an environment where it ever even occurred to you to try to overpower your mother or that you needed someone who could physically overpower you around to threaten you into good behavior. That's messed up!

Nope, mostly not - not if they are getting the love and support that they need. The kids who have parents that fight and stepdads they hate are way, way more likely to be causing problems than ones with single mothers.
