No, they aren't to anywhere near the same extent. Rape is almost non-existant among the Mosuo or the Minangkabau because domination of women in that way is not considered manly the way it is in patriarchal cultures.

In addition, stoicism in men in Western cultures is a relatively recent development, arising around the time of the Industrial Revolution. Dramatic weeping in various contexts used to be considered quite manly.

Volumes and volumes of books have been written about these topics. The fact that I could not fit all of their insights into a 2 minute comment doesn't mean they don't exist. Research key words such as Man Box to learn more about this. Patriarchy is indeed a social system - one where masculinity and manhood is envisioned as the opposite of femininity (rather than no longer being a child) and where a very small range of acceptable traits are therefore allowed to be a "traditional" patriarchal man.

A few years back, the American Psychological Association listed new guidelines for working with men and boys. They spent 13 years going through 40 years of research and concluded the same thing that 97% of all other research on this topic concludes, that patriarchal masculinity (aka "tradtional" masculinity) is harmful to males - and to everyone else.

“Though men benefit from patriarchy, they are also impinged upon by patriarchy,” says Ronald F. Levant, EdD, a professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Akron and co-editor of the APA volume “The Psychology of Men and Masculinities.” Levant was APA president in 2005 when the guideline-drafting process began and was instrumental in securing funding and support to get the process started.

The main thrust of the subsequent research is that traditional masculinity—marked by stoicism, competitiveness, dominance and aggression—is, on the whole, harmful.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
