Nothing to apologize for. I very much appreciate you taking the time to share all this with me. I suppose that marketing wasn't really the correct term, because I write what is "asking to come forth" rather than what I think other people will read. At the same time, it's always good to get outside feedback from someone who isn't in my immediate circle but who is also generally receptive. No worries about me changing... 😸 Unless I'm really being unkind to someone or have said something in error, I'm unlikely to do much changing. It was more for curiousity.
I tend to agree about some of the other writers you have mentioned. I used to love JW when I first came to Medium but I rarely read her any longer. I tend to write about our social system an awful lot, but that's because I'm a social scientist and that's what I'm primarily interested in, but I try to come at different aspects of it as much as possible because there are so many facets. I know that a lot of people (at least a lot of women) write by way of processing things that they are dealing with. My braless story is a case in point. I understand that might not resonate for you much in part because that's not something you worry about one way or the other, but for other women, many of whom have experienced lifelong judgement and "rules" around that, it is no doubt more meaningful - but not necessarily for all. I heard from one woman who said she feels a lot more sweaty without one on...
And, I appreciate that you get that not everything is going to land for you and mostly letting other people do them without censure or complaint. So many folks spend way, way too much time in a tizzy about what other people are doing, wearing, wanting that doesn't affect them in any material way. It's a function of the dominance-hierarchy system, where "ranking" comes in relationship to how you compare to others, rather than sense of self coming from within. I'm working on a story about that right now in fact.
Again, thanks for the chat. I do enjoy getting to know people a bit better beyond just briefly in more run of the mill comments.
