NP — yes, it’s a memoir. Very, very good read! She paints a really sensitive, but also realistic picture of that world. It’s also fascinating because she had zero formal schooling, not even true home schooling, and still was able to study and pick up enough to get a scholarship to BYU and then to earn a Gates scholarship to Cambridge, but even so had huge gaps in her knowledge, e.g., didn’t know what the holocaust was as a 17 year old. It was almost like she was beamed down from another planet and had to make her way here on earth with little help from others, all the while, fighting against everything she’d ever been taught or believed.
