Obviously, a military needs a chain of command, but there does seem to be some movement away from the strict dominance-based hierarchy of the past, where you will do what I say or you will suffer the consequences just because I outrank you. I know that Brene Brown is now on the teaching staff of the Air Force Academy and is helping them learn how to more widely embrace a more partnership-oriented Dare To Lead kind of style. I’m assuming that adopting the Israeli model was less because it was nicer and more because it was better for morale and therefore more effective. A less paternalistic style means that everyone has greater buy-in to the mission and more accountability — to say nothing of camaraderie.
