OK, I see an awful lot of that coming from the Trump campaign as well, including a bunch of outright lies that immigrants are mostly criminals (in truth, they commit far fewer crimes than homegrown Americans), and that Haitian immigrants are eating dogs and cats in Ohio. In other words, there's a lot of room all around for people to do better.
