Ok, I’ll give you that the fashion/beauty industry drives that look, but as with most other industries, it’s overwhelmingly run by men.

“In the beauty, fashion, and media industries, there’s still a long way to go when it comes to gender representation in upper management. The beauty industry has an average of just 29 percent female leadership across boards and executive teams, fashion averages 27 percent, and media averages 15 percent, according to the LedBetter Gender Equality Index.”

Female Hollywood stars are expected to starve themselves. They may not look heroin chic like runway models, but they also don’t weigh what normal human beings do. ‘I’ve worked with a lot of big female film stars and the thing that I notice more than anything is that they’re starving. It’s just expected.’ said Dominic West in an interview.

Many of the women who appear in men’s magazines are also eating less than normal human beings. They look healthy to you compared with emaciated runway models, but in truth, it’s not much better. Size 10 is now considered a plus model. Meanwhile, Marilyn Monroe wore a size 6 or 8. Most models for print are a size 2.

“American research has shown that the size of Playboy centrefold models and Miss Americas has got smaller over the past 30 years. “We think it’s irresponsible to use models of such unattainable dimensions and would like to see a range of physical types,” Dr Glen Weller says.”

We’re just so bombarded with that image that we begin to believe that real women can look like that if they just ate right and worked out when overwhelmingly, that isn’t the case.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
