OMG, you are so right! Most people - even progressive people have absorbed this somehow and believe it to be true. I've rather made a pest of myself around Medium when people use phrases like "since the beginning of time" by pointing out that this isn't remotely true - it's really just since the beginning of patriarchy a few thousand years ago. No-one has ever thanked me for bringing that to their attention, although there are those who have thanked me for pointing it out in stories I've written. I'm sure they find it pedantic to be corrected, but it's kind of my Medium mission to keep talking about how our idealized image of the 1950s as seen on shows like Father Knows Best were not really even truly representative of that time, except in an idealized version, and they certainly were not representative of most of human history - particularly not in Paleolithic times.
