One of the main tenets of "Strict Father Morality" aka the dominance hierarchy of patriarchy is that there are certain rules and codes of conduct and adhering to them is the way to be moral, and ultimately successful. It makes no allowance for changing times or different cultures. Do it the "traditional" way or you are out of line. But as you so aptly pointed out, this way of thinking does more harm than good in many instances.
