One of the stupidest aspects of patriarchy (and there are many) is the idea that women's sexuality ought to be policed, controlled, and stigmatized. Men would be having a lot hotter sex, and a lot more of it if they'd cut that shit out. But you're right - those beliefs are only a couple thousand years old. Before that, it was a very different story.
