Over all, I agree with you. Enthusiasm and showing real interest in them and their lives is more important than looking like a movie star. I think looking like a homeless person might be a bit more than most men are willing to excuse to get those things because men do tend to be pretty visual, but it's more consumer culture selling that story about perfection than it is what most men actually care about.
