Patriarchy is a dominance hierarchy. It's predicated on people knowing their place in the pyramid of power and also conditions those with less power to accept abuse from those with more. Challenging that feels deeply uncomfortable to many, not just those with the most to lose from a flatter, less hierarchical structure.
