Patriarchy is a system of social stratification, not just one where men have some primacy over women, but where rich, White men hold the most spots at the apex of the pyramid and everyone else vies for the rungs beneath. Getting people back into their “god-given” lane is what makes a social conservative happy. I love the LBJ quote — it’s spot on!
