Polygamy and polyamory are two very, very different relationship styles and structures and I don't believe they should be equated in any way. The concubine who became emperess aside, polygamy typically has uneven power in the relationship and the harems of powerful men has nothing really to do with polyamory - which as you noted has recurring common values of love, intimacy, honesty, integrity, and equality.
