Recent research indicates that women get bored with monogamy before men do. We also live in a culture that demands that women (and particularly married women and moms) be sexy but not sexual — except in response to their husband’s desire. The fact that even married mothers are fully sexual creatures shouldn’t be such a surprise, but for many it’s still a shocking break from societal norms. You don’t have to want to step out or feel the urge to go poly to feel a bit sexually constrained in a long term monogamous relationship. Good for her for speaking out and beginning to tear down this taboo.
