Reciprocity is a part of consent, so that it a very important aspect, but I don't really see a lot of people who are enjoying being reduced down to their race alone. That's kind of the whole problem with it -lack of consent. As I said, it's fine to have a preference or even a type, but truly fetishizing someone is turning them into an object.
If people want to engage in consensual race play, that's their business, but most racism (or other types of discrimination) are subtle and subconscious and I think it's important to bring it more into the light wherever it arises.
For me, saying "I try not to take the sex community too seriously" would be akin to saying, "I try not to take the rap community too seriously" in the face of a hurtful or insensitive behaviors.
Additionally, this story was written to be added to the submission guidelines. I've had some stories floated which have talked about fetishizing someone for their race, and now I have a guideline to put out there proactively so that will hopefully no longer happen.
