Research indicates that people who are not targets of discrimination (particularly white men) can have a much greater impact and chance of being listened to without backlash than when those same messages come from someone who is in the relevant demographic. We absolutely need allies - to speak up and speak out and to help change the perception of what is normal behavior. People do what they think they can get away with. If more people make it clear that certain speech or actions aren't acceptable, they will decrease.
