She is one of my most favorite artists and I think that you described why very aptly. There is a primalness to her work that is both strong and supple, vivid and deeply feminine. I used to have a huge poster of one of her Black Irises, which is pretty suggestive of something else if that's what you choose to see in it. I just loved that although it was done in oil, it almost looked like a watercolor. The entire thing is just masterful -so delicate, and yet making such a strong statement.
