So, in other words, there’s no real evidence for this, and just what seems most likely to you? I suppose it’s possible but a conspiracy is an incredibly difficult thing to maintain. Thousands and thousands of people cannot keep a secret and if someone had paid them or otherwise instigated them, it seems pretty likely that this would have come out by now. Why does any movement go from a trickle to a flood? That’s a complex issue and just because we don’t know the answer for sure, doesn’t mean there isn’t an organic reason.
“With 60 murders per 100,000 people in 2017, El Salvador was the deadliest place in the world that was not at war. Almost 4,000 people were killed there last year.
Honduras’ murder rate has dropped markedly in recent years, but with 42.8 murders per 100,000 people in 2017, it is still one of the world’s most dangerous places.
As Central American gangs grew stronger, in part by recruiting members from jail, they began fighting to expand their territorial control. Beginning in 2010, these turf wars contributed to an astronomical rise in violence across the region.”
The Trump administration has openly said that they are separating children from parents as a deterrent and not for any legitimate reason. Yes, women are traffickers too but they should sort that out in some other way, since it’s clear that the vast majority of these people are actual families and the trauma they are inflicting on these children will haunt them for the rest of their lives.
“Based on 30,000 pages of documents obtained through a records request, the report includes gruesome, detailed accusations of physical and mental abuse at the hands of officers. The claims were filed by unaccompanied minors, most of whom hailed from El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and Honduras.” I’m sure, as with most things, some of the allegations are not true, but knowing what I do about human nature, and how power leads to abuse, I’d inclined to believe that the vast majority of these allegations are true. We saw how Federal agents behaved with the water protesters in North Dakota, shooting elderly people in the face with rubber bullets and otherwise treating them as sub-human. It’s really not a stretch of the imagination in any way that this is no different. And again, a vast conspiracy would be too difficult to maintain. But 30,000 pages of very detailed accounts is pretty compelling.
As I’ve already said, I don’t believe that we can absorb all of these refugees, even if we did contribute to the horrors that are taking place in their homelands, but that doesn’t mean that we have to act like Nazis — and all evidence indicates that is what we are doing. It’s not like the only two choices are to let them all in or to treat them in a sub-human manner. There are other options.
