Social Norms Theory says that quite often many people in the group are uncomfortable with something but don't think or know if anyone else is, so they stay silent out of assumptions. Meanwhile, it may well be that nobody in the group is comfortable with or accepting of a certain statement or behavior, but they don't want to "stick their neck out." Having the courage of your convictions can absolutely turn the tide and help others around us to realize that they are not alone. People do what they feel is acceptable. When more people start to make it clear that certain things no longer are, that's how we change the culture.

Thanks for talking about how hard this can be but also how rewarding.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
