Some generalizations reflect a real sociological dynamic (such as that most violence is perpetrated by men), but this particular one can be disproven simply by looking around at the world and the wide variety of couples that exist in it. In addition, it's well documented that most women care a whole lot less about a man's looks than they do his other characteristics, such as his personality, integrity, empathy, etc. It's a particularly silly and inane generalization.
