Some research indicates that men have a greater response to emotional stimuli than women do. I’ve said that I don’t know if there is truly much difference in emotionality between men and women, but that there is a difference in how integrated people’s emotions are into their personas. Then there is also men’s self-reporting and otherwise noted that men often pretend they are feeling less than they actually do. A third element is a disconnect from emotion that sometimes leads to outbursts at the same time that such things are being denied. I hear all the time from men who are so sure of their rationality but who are clearly spewing raw emotion. Not you — but many, many others. Pretty much every day. I very rarely experience this from women.

I did actually write that men have less fluency and understanding of their emotions because they’ve largely been socialized for that.

“Most men have been socialized to believe that having emotions is feminine and weak. Emotions are also considered to be irrational, and out of control. Rather than learning to feel their emotions and work with them, men are more likely to stuff and disclaim them — which ironically, quite often leads them to behave in irrational and out of control ways.”

When one is continually disavowing and stuffing their emotions, they don’t go away. They run the person subconsciously from behind the scenes. This isn’t just me saying this. It’s basic psychology. Here’s a good Medium article about it.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
