Technically speaking, the International Coach Federation (ICF) is a professional body and does not train coaches directly. However, hiring someone who has graduating from an ICF approved training program means they have at least 60 hours of training in core competencies and adhere to ethical standards. In an unregulated industry, that’s a great indicator of quality.

Most life coaches also work with their own coach because it’s a dynamic process of facilitated thinking, and not just about being emotionally healthy or having certain distinctions. It is the complete opposite of giving advice. The coaching relationship is greater than the sum of the coach and the client and it is there that magic takes place — in the synthesis of the partnering between the two.
