Taoists have associated traits with Yin and Yang for over 5 thousand years, but although those are ostensibly linked to femininity and masculinity, it’s not really about gender in the same way that patriarchy divides everything into female and male with rigid traits and no cross-over or blending allowed. They also don’t believe that one is better than the other, unlike patriarchal cultures (of which China is one, of course), but Taoism as a philosophy is more balanced.
