Thanks, and yes, I think it is purposeful - because screaming about how unfair it is to demonize all men (not what the term actually does) is a way to distract from the fact that masculinity as it is constructed in this culture is harmful - to women and children, but also to men and the society. I've noticed that for many men, acknowledging that the system is flawed seems to them like an admission that they haven't been able to cut it in the system, so they won't do it. Being outraged at the term provides an out.
