Thanks for adding this. It is an important point that even today there are some subcultures that teach this stuff explicitly. And, it’s hard to not believe it if everyone around you believes it, and reinforces it on a weekly basis from the pulpit by telling you it’s what God wants and expects.

I didn’t put this in the OP but the belief that men should be the head of the family has actually gone up in the past 30 years, coinciding with the rise and increasing power of the evangelical movement.
